The Mercantile is itself something of an antique, in continuous use for more than a century. It's a testament to the quality of workmanship of our antecedents. Antiques connect us to a time when things were not so disposable as they are now, after all, when's that last time you darned a sock or had a contemporary couch refinished? Prince Edward County is steeped in history, many of its families being descendants of United Empire Loyalists who escaped the American Revolution and Ameliasburgh one of the original “Ten Towns of Upper Canada”, so named for being among the first surveyed in the region.
